Mother's Day. Everyday.

OH Mother's Day! The one day a year when I can sleep in (at least til' 9:00) and expect one beast of a mess to clean up in the kitchen afterwards because the kids tried to make me breakfast in bed. I love Mother's Day, not for the gifts, but because it's the only day out of the entire year when I can say, "Go ask your dad" and have full confidence that I won't be approached again in two minutes by the same child with the same question! I earned this day, and I think dads respect that. Mother's Day is a day when you honor your mom for all she's done for you and thank her for it. After all, moms do a LOT of stuff! No matter what kind of mom you are, you do a LOT of stuff.
For example, there's the mother of very young children, who changes TERRIBLE diapers, cleans up vomit constantly, sits in the bathroom and cries while trying to pump enough milk to feed the worst colicky baby in history, wears sweat pants with spit up stains to the store, Never is caught up on laundry, has seen every episode of Yo Gabba Gabba (twice), gets light headed blowing on mac n' cheese, and who always serenades her audience while she tries to use the bathroom for two seconds!
Then there's the mother of school-aged children. The one who signs folders, makes lunches, attends endless PTA meetings and dance recitals, checks homework, checks bad attitudes, helps make a Mt. Vernon replica out of graham crackers for a social studies project, brushes fist-sized knots out of freshly washed hair while listening to moans and screams, sits in traffic to the sound of Justin Bieber songs, and who referees sibling rivalry ALL DAY LONG!!!
Now you can't forget the mother of teens. I'm not there yet, but I can only imagine it's a mom who chauffeurs a large number of ungrateful children everywhere while their cell phones ding simultaneously from random text messages. A mom who cleans up after sleepovers, passes out money like she's playing Monopoly, cooks constantly, listens and pretends to care about endless teenage dramas, spends late nights facebook stalking, worries like no other, counts down the days til' graduation, and has the patience of a Saint!
Last, but not least, is the mother of grown adults. the mom who calls everyday just to check in, cries at your wedding, teaches you how to fold a darned fitted sheet, babysits grand kids, makes family dinners on Sundays, feeds your dog when you're out of town, gives you advice, and knows exactly who to call when something in your house breaks!
That's a LOT of stuff! It's a lifelong job that never gets easier and the load never gets lighter. You will never cry, laugh, worry, or trust in God more than you will as a mom. You will also never love more or be as successful at anything else in your lifetime (someone awesome told me that). ;)  Happy Mother's Day to all you hard working ladies!!! Go take a NAP!!!!!!
