Embarrassing things happen to me daily. Anyone who knows me, knows this. Between my clumsiness and my kids, people around me are always entertained. Well, today was Maizy's first dentist appointment. I've been avoiding this for a while because I knew it would be a nightmare. Anyway, the minute I brought it up this morning she started crying. "I don't want to mommy!" and "What are they going to do to me?" To say the least, she was terrified. After I convinced her that at the end she could get a new toothbrush and a toy from the toy wall, she reluctantly agreed and we headed for the dentist. When we got there she pulled the usual embarrassing stuff like yelling out "mommy I tooted" from across the crowded room and picking her nose and then talking about her findings. When our name was called she started screaming and crying. In the end, it was me sitting in the dentist's chair holding her while the poor assistant tried prying her mouth open to clean her teeth. We didn't get to do any x rays or anything. The dentist was actually lucky she didn't bite off any of his fingers during his examination. Somewhere in the midst of the chaos I promised her McDonald's for lunch if she promised not to hurt any of the nurses. So, after leaving the house of pain we headed to McDonald's.
Now, if you know Maizy , you know she's friends with everyone. She can make a friend in the checkout line at Target. So immediately after eating she finds a little group of girls her age and starts playing. There was a little boy in the group too and his dad was sitting right behind me at a table texting. After about ten minutes, Maizy comes over to our table and announces (not so quietly) "Mommy, there is a boy in that tunnel and you need to get him out because he is one strange little dude!" Then she points to the dad behind me and says, "And THAT"S his dad right there! see mommy, he's strange too!" She is doing hand gestures and having crazy facial expressions too. I couldn't even turn around and apologize. I was so mortified. I quietly told her to go play and leave that boy alone. About 5 minutes later the dad behind me got up and said to his son, "Come on BOY let's go!" And they left. I tried explaining to Maizy that you can't say things about other people out loud because it could hurt their feelings, but she just nodded and pretended she understood then skipped off. Today was on another level of embarrassment. I mean we are in the process of potty training her right now so the usual pants grabbing, and wedgie proclamations had nothing on this day! How do you tell a 3 year old not to speak her mind? Especially MY 3 year old! All in all, I guess I shouldn't complain. She did make it through the day without peeing on herself or little poopie balls falling out of her pants in public. I recently read a quote that I LOVE because it pretty much sums up Maizy! It says, "The greatest Oak was once a little nut who held it's ground!" I just gotta keep telling myself that!!! Although, my little nut is pretty great already! :)
