Fairy Sorry

So, I know I already blogged about loosing teeth and dramas surrounding that, but I have another one involving teeth, that wasn't dramatic on the kids' part, but mine and required a big fat lie! Now, I know my kids are seven now and to some people that may be a little old to believe in Santa and the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, but my kids believe in all of that 100%. As a mom, there is no way that I am going to tell them the truth when they ask me if Santa is real, because some kid in their class told them that he doesn't exist. I can't look into their eyes and say, "No honey, you're Christmas presents came from daddy breaking his back 13 hours a day for the past 3 months to get that $50 barking stuffed dog that you had to have along with lots of other toys you couldn't live without!" Or when they ask about the tooth fairy I just nod and say, "Yes, she's real," instead of, "All of your teeth are in the bottom drawer of my jewelry box." I mean they are going to find out eventually but let them have dreams about Santa and fairies for now, because when they grow up their dreams won't be as glamorous and will probably be about things like, "How am I going to afford to fix my car this month, and eat?" Not fun at all! So, for now I fully support their innocence. Anyway, Avery finally lost her other front tooth that has been loose for three months! She was so excited about the tooth fairy coming and last night she had a whole set up in her bed with her tooth in a little treasure box all ready for the tooth fairy to come and take it! Well, I'm usually pretty good about remembering to trade off the money for the tooth, but when Maizy pulled an all-nighter on me, I fell asleep on the couch and totally forgot. Until, 6:30 this morning when Avery's alarm went off and I heard her crying from her room. I immediately knew what I had done (or not done) and ran into our bedroom to take money from Zach's wallet. I wasn't sure what I was going to say or do at this point so I just laid the money down on our desk in the kitchen and went into Avery's bedroom. She was crying and saying, "The tooth fairy forgot me!" I guess I just started talking without even thinking about it, and I told her that the tooth fairy had come last night and she didn't even make it to her room because she got sick with a stomach bug (the same one that we all had over the Thanksgiving break!) and she just left some money on the desk in the kitchen. Then I told her to go look and see. I also told her that the tooth fairy had called me and said she felt so bad for not being able to get her tooth (which she REALLY did) and that today during school she would try to come back by and get it. This made Avery happy and I took them to school. While they were at school I wrote all fancy-like on a construction paper heart and made a note that was from the tooth fairy explaining the situation. Then I put an extra $10 tied with pink ribbon, on her bed with the note and sprinkled glitter all over, and I still forgot to get the tooth out of the treasure box! So, I thought of this on the way home from getting the girls at school. When we got home I told one of the girls to go and get the mail and the other one to get all of the coats out of the car while I ran inside and grabbed the tooth! When Avery saw what was left for her, she was so excited and her faith in the tooth fairy was renewed! Seems like a lot of trouble to cover up a lie, but I think it was worth all $14! Tooth Fairy note above says: Dear Avery, I am very sorry I did not get your tooth last night, but I was feeling very sick. I heard you and your sister wanted American Girl dolls, so here is ten more dollars and now you have enough! I love you. the tooth fairy
