Thanks

Working for the school district I get the best of both worlds (and if you just sang the Hannah Montana theme song in your head you might relate to this post). I get to work at a job that I love during school time and then when breaks from school come around I get to be a stay at home mom again. It's perfect. Until the break actually comes. I swear I don't know how I survived 8 years as a stay at home mom. Here is why. Last night one of my children threw a couch pillow at another one while she was eating ice cream straight out of the carton because she was too lazy to put it into a bowl, and the pillow knocked the carton loose spilling ice cream all over my couch. Then the two children spent the next 15 minutes arguing over who's fault the spill was and therefore, who was going to clean it. As I watched that chocolate ice cream form a perfect kidney shaped stain on my furniture, I reminisced on how we had decided to forgo the scotch guarding when we bought the couch because we didn't see it necessary to spend the extra $100. We were so naive. Oh and those kids are 12 by the way. And not to mention my beloved 7 year old who I caught outside with a Kroger sack and a pair of tongs trying to catch a stray cat that she has named Bob Lopez. Don't ask. And how about Avery putting the garage door down while the back hatch on my car was still open. That was awesome. Now don't get me wrong I'm completely head over heels for my kids no matter how weird or annoying they are, but I forget how hard it is to maintain your sanity when you have listened to a Justin Bieber song on repeat for 3 hours straight during a de-hoarding of an ADHD child's bedroom. I mean how many times do I need to say "put the shoes in the drawer?!" I know it sounds like I'm complaining but I assure you I'm not.  I'm thankful for my girls with all of their faults and borderline OCD habits. I'm thankful that I get to spend time with them and be their mom. And I'm most thankful that when  I look at the world today, my biggest problem is a stain on my couch or giving a lecture about cat trapping. Work is work but being a parent is a work in progress. So this week during the 216 hour break from school give thanks for your little ones. Give thanks for having patience. And most of all give thanks for second semesters. 😜🦃🙏🏻
