The Sleepover
So, the girls are almost 7 now and they have made lots of little friends this past year. Recently they asked if one of their friends could sleepover at our house. I just love when they want something really badly because then I can schedule it for a week away and have something to use for a whole week, sometimes longer, for bribery!! So I agreed to this and arranged for it to take place about 4 days later, which I did get good use out of, but also it got really annoying hearing, "How many more days til' it's the day our friend spends the night?" Anyway, the plan was chuck e cheese for dinner then dollar movie date night, play for a little bit when we got home, then I had to return the friend my noon the next day. No problem. Well, I picked up "friend" at 4:00 and we went straight to chuck e cheese. I let Maizy spend the night at grandma's because there was no way I was going to listen to her screaming all night because the big girls won't let her play with them! So, the kids had fun playing games and eating pizza for about 2 hours. Then we came home and I told the girls to get all dressed up for movie night. There is a dollar movie theatre right by our house that I take the kids to all the time and they love it, which I love because it's cheap! Well they go back to their room and paint their nails and do their hair and spray glitter all over themselves. They put on makeup and jewelry and change into different outfits and then they tell me to come get my makeup done too. I agree to this makeover because I figured, hey, it's a week night and it's the dollar movie, no one is going to be there. So I let them do my hair, nails, and makeup and put jewels on me too. I look like Madonna in "Material Girl" but worse by the time they are finished. Now it is time to go and we pop our own popcorn and we each fill our purse with a can of root beer, a bag of popcorn, and a box of candy (I know it's ghetto, but that's how I roll) and then we jump in the car and head out to see "Marmaduke." So when we get there I am dreading the fact that I have to actually get out of the car because I was wrong and apparently lots of people go to the dollar movie on a week night! As a mom, I have done some pretty embarrassing things, like the time I took Avery's little potty with us on a trip to Walmart because she was scared of the big potty and I was determined that she was going to get potty trained no matter what I had to do! But, looking like a complete moron 80's reject was probably worse than the potty thing. So I just keep my head down and walk fast into the theatre. Yes, people were staring, but I'm used to that because Maizy is usually throwing some kind of fit in public so people are always giving me looks. We enjoy our movie and treats and 2 hours later, we leave. By this time it's about 10:00 so I'm thinking when we get home they will be tired and they will be asleep in about an hour! Well, that didn't happen. When we got home, they wanted to bake a cake so I let them while I supervised and read directions and then it took 40 minutes to bake. When the cake was done, they iced it and put a thousand sprinkles on it and then each one of them ate 2 pieces and drank a root beer. Then, they ran all through the house, they played ultimate fighter, they played polly pockets, barbies, store, boggle, and they attempted to watch a movie. At about 12:30 AM I finally said they had to settle down. So, we put up a tent in their room and made it all comfy with blankets and pillows and I said goodnight and I shut their door. I don't know what they did in there for the next hour, but it was hysterical because they were laughing so loud I couldn't even watch my dvr'd episode of the Real Housewives! Anyway, when it was finally quiet I looked up at the clock, and it said 1:45. I went to bed thinking that I could sleep in the next morning. The girls had went to bed so late and Maizy wasn't home so I could probably get away with 9:00, maybe even 10:00! WRONG! They were up at 8:00 and they wanted pancakes and eggs. So I made pancakes and eggs, even though some say my cooking stinks! That morning must not have been an exception because after I had spent all that time on making the breakfast, they all had a piece of the left over cake instead. I don't blame them, it was pretty bad. Anyway, after they played for a while I took "friend" home and the sleepover was officially over. I can't say it was too bad, but I'll know next time to do my own hair and makeup! And one last thing. This is to all of the people at the movies who were laughing at me.......You may think I look stupid, but who's the one that paid $50 for a coke and a large popcorn! HA! I'm such a mom!
