Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow!

So, I usually have a lot of patience with kids, especially my own, but yesterday Avery, one of my twins, decided she wanted to know just how much I had left in me! It happened early in the morning. I had my head in the dryer taking clothes out to fold (this happens a lot in my line of work), when I heard little footsteps running in the hallway and then I heard a door slam. I didn't think anything of it because this is something that goes on a lot with two 6 year old girls. I continued on doing what I was doing and a couple of minutes later my other twin, McKenna, comes into the kitchen with a handful of blond hair!! She looks up at me with all seriousness and says, "Mommy, Maizy's hair is falling out!" My gut reaction is to laugh. Not because this is funny, but because kids will believe the most impossible things with all their hearts. Just like the time the girls were asking me a million questions about Santa Claus and I couldn't think fast enough so I told them that Santa lived in a space ship in outer space and he saw everything with his huge telescope, they still believe that one!!! I say to McKenna, "There is no way THAT much hair could have fallen out!" Then I remember the door slam and the running from earlier and I scream out, "AAAAAVERY!!!!" She slowly comes into the kitchen and I ask her, "Did you cut Maizy's hair?" She shakes her head no and I can already tell that she is lying. I ask her again. She is getting very defensive now and still saying no. So, I know at this point I have to do what all moms do in this situation and that is, trick her into telling me the truth. I say, "You know that God and Santa are watching you all the time, Right? So, if you are lying to me, they know it and they will find a way to tell me." She stands there for a minute and thinks about what I just said. I ask her one last time if she cut her sister's hair or not and this time she says, "YES". Why did you do this Avery? She tells me that she just wanted to do it, so she did it. The things kids find amusing is so random! I explain to her that she can't do that ever again and that lying to your parents is very serious and you should never do it. She has a blank stare on her face the whole time and I know in her head she is singing Hannah Montana songs instead of listening to what I am saying. Just about this time Maizy comes around the corner and I see where Avery has taken a chunk out of my baby girl's mullet (she really has one people, it's disturbing). Now I have to laugh because even with the missing hair, Maizy is still so stinkin' cute! So, the day goes by like usual, lots of spills, fighting, and dramatic fit throwing on Maizy's part, when around 10:00pm Zach, my husband, drops something behind the couch and when he pulls the couch out from the wall to get it, the scissors drop down there too. Avery hid them between the back of the couch and the wall so there wouldn't be any evidence!! Has it come to this already, that they are hiding things and lying to avoid getting into trouble? I think I may be in for a crazy life over the next few years, but I'm so thankful that my kids are lying to my face instead of lying in a hospital bed. Give thanks for this when it happens to you too!!!
